Can a Muslim be an evolutionist?

The evolution – be it while it has first been put forward or during its later periods – has always been identified with atheism, and presented as an alternative to the ruling “Allah has created the man” of religions.

Darwin, who put forward the evolution, has already declared himself to be irreligious, saying that he is ‘in doubt about the existence of God’ (agnostic).1 For nearly 150 years, the issue has manifested itself as a conflict and debate between the religious and the atheist.

The theory of evolution contradicts the explicit rulings of the Qur’an and the Sunnah. In this respect, accepting the evolution is simply blasphemy in terms of Islam. Because the clear expressions of the Qur’an show that Adam (pbuh) was created from soil, without mother and father. Let’s look at this verse:

“[So mention] when your Lord said to the angels, “Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay. So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My soul, then fall down to him in prostration.”2

Another similar verse says:

“And

[mention, O Muhammad]

, when your Lord said to the angels, “I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My soul, then fall down to him in prostration.”3

“Who perfected everything which He created and began the creation of man from clay. Then He made his posterity out of the extract of a liquid disdained.”4

Let us also look at the following verse:

Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, “Be,” and he was.”5

Allah created Jesus (pbuh) without a father; and Adam (pbuh) without mother and father. Allah gives Adam (as) as an example to those who see the creation of Jesus (as) as strange, or those who accept his fatherless creation as his being a deity. To those who ask “Can a man be without a father?” the Qur’an answers “Sure! Here is Adam!” To the Christians who say “Jesus is a god, and the proof is that he was created without a father,’ the Qur’an says “You are wrong; because Adam does not have a father, either; neither a mother. Just as he is not a god, Jesus is also not a god.”

This verse, of course, says “You are lying!” as well to those who say “Adam had a father. He was the evolved form of animals. Human has evolved.”

Despite these and similar verses, let us remind the rest of the verse to those who make all kinds of excuses and shamelessly twist the meaning the way that suit themselves. The verse continues as follows:

“The truth is from your Lord, so do not be among the doubters. Then whoever argues with you about it after [this] knowledge has come to you – say, “Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then supplicate earnestly [together] and invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars [among us].” Indeed, this is the true narration. And there is no deity except Allah. And indeed, Allah is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. But if they turn away, then indeed – Allah is Knowing of the corrupters.”6

While the clear statements of the Qur’an are such, it has recently been seen that there have been some people who say that the evolution is a truth and that this does not conflict with Islam, and that there is no harm to religion in accepting evolution. These people try to form a path between blasphemy and faith by making the idea of ​​evolution a reality, by forced interpretations of the clear verses of the Qur’an according to evolution.

They accept the evolution – which the atheists put forward to deny Allah but cannot prove – and propagate it among Muslims. It is difficult to believe that such activities are innocent.

If a man claims that a person can be both a Muslim and an evolutionist, there are two possibilities:

In the first case: This man is a sneaky hypocrite; he wants to spread atheism to break Muslims’ resistance to irreligion and to set Muslims against one another by creating conflicts among them.

The second possibility: This man is an arrogant, conceited man who thinks he is capable of talking about Islam, although he is ignorant of Islam and the Qur’an.
